Vachss Residence

When my client-a beautiful, sophisticated attorney with a large, high profile, corporate law firm located in San Francisco's financial district-approached me to take on her project, she initially described her den as rustic 60's with a monster of a fire place.

We both agreed that this should become a luxurious, peaceful retreat where she could shut out the rest of the world when she needed to recharge.

What her home did have going for it was large rooms, high ceilings and jaw-dropping views of the San Francisco Bay that caressed the senses.

We selected a sophisticated palette of warm off-whites juxtaposed with tints of ice blue for the back drop. Then we chose a light-colored limestone that was meticulously laid, and matched the tones of the warm off-whites for the fire place surround & ledge that would later be used to display art work. I then specified natural cherry for the built-in entertainment system and the wet bar and display cases to create warmth in the room.

I chose supple, tactile textiles and leathers for the sofa and arm chairs and a generous custom ottoman covered in a basket-weave patterned suede. The room was transformed from 60's lumberjack , into a sophisticated, sexy, retreat, perched above the San Francisco Bay with soothing views of the south bay and peninsula.
