Choosing the right flooring hinges on many elements: lifestyle, floor plan, maintenance, budget, and overall appeal. "I have found that the cleaner and less fussy look works best when it comes to accentuating twentieth century modern architecture," says Bay Area interior designer Doyle McCullar. "The key to having a successful installation of new flooring is keeping in mind the end result you want to achieve and how it relates to your architecture."

“Doyle and I have worked on a number television projects together. I cast Doyle in several national television shows as expert designer and that he is. He has great vision and is super talented at creating one of a kind designs. Every project looks as amazing in person as it does on camera. I have also worked with him on a personal side and he was perfect at selecting furniture pieces that have accented my home beautifully.”

I envy my neighbor’s elegant backyard waterfall. How can I install one?

Doyle McCullar, a San Francisco-based designer, also advises his clients to stick with natural materials, and to pay attention to scale. “A tiny fountain in a huge, open yard will look very odd and sad. And a huge fountain on a small lot will dwarf the size of the property,” he said. “Take note of your plot size before falling in love with the wrong waterfall.”

“Doyle is a creative interior designer who makes the client think about new ideas without being too pushy. Doyle led the redecorating efforts for most of my home and roof deck (multiple assignments) and I am very happy with the process and outcome.”

Cohesive Character

HGTV’s Curb Appeal

In this episode of HGTV’s Curb Appeal, my team dramatically changed the appearance this North Bay home by enhancing the driveway, adding the hillside pavilion. Changing the house colors and enhancing the window trim with cast stone elements. The clients home went from dull to dramatic.

“I hired Doyle to expand and rework two bathrooms in my home. I chose Doyle because he had really good ideas of how best to expand the bathroom that needed to be expanded. His design sense dove-tailed with mine very well - plus he pushed me in ways I didn't think I'd go...”

Row House Revitalized

HGTV’s Curb Appeal

I noticed this home and its state of disrepair on my drives to and from client meetings in San Francisco. I was delighted to learn that this would be my next project for HGTVs Curb Appeal. With donated materials and earnest budget, we were able to give this home a beautiful new exterior make over.

Help for a boring home

HGTV’s Curb Appeal

This was one of my favorite projects for HGTV’s Curb Appeal. The San Francisco home had great bones and the clients were wonderful to work with. We enhanced the mid century architecture with a darker color palate and enhanced other architecture elements with saturated pops of color.

Inviting Mediterranean

HGTV’s Curb Appeal

For Mike and Vicky’s home I gave them several warm color combinations to choose from to repaint the exterior of the home and expanded the front landing. Both were essential in the transformation of this East Bay home. This was my first of many great projects for HGTV’s Curb Appeal.
